Jacob Stevens

Jacob Stevens was the son of John Stevens, of Charlton, Massachusetts.  His birth was not recorded at Charlton, however, a lengthy search of deeds shows that John was the father of the family at Charlton.  His mother was Rachel Needham.
John raised in the home of Thomas Needham, in Danvers, Massachusetts.  He married second, Rebecca Marble, of Sutton, Massachusetts on 12 November 1765.  John died on March 29, 1804 aged 84 years.  He was buried at Charlton beside his son, Peter.  There are no markers for either of the wives.
Jacob Stevens, and his brother, Thomas, and their sister, Mary and her husband, Captain John Daggett, came to Greene, when Jacob was 18 years old.  Jacob lived with his sister, Mary Daggett and her family for some time.  Later he married Martha Pettingell, daughter of Mark and Sarah (Clough) Pettingell.  Mark Pettingell was drowned in the Androscoggin River but the date is unknown now.
Jacob and Martha (Pettingell) Stevens had 11 children as follows: Sarah, Rachel, Rebecca, Polly, Martha, Jacob Jr. Esther, Lora, Jerusha, Lucy and John Stevens.
